In a newly released video compilation, the Ukrainian Navy highlights the success of its VAMPIRE Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system in countering Russian attack drones.

The footage shows at least eight confirmed interceptions, demonstrating the low-cost system’s ability to neutralize unmanned aerial threats effectively.

L3Harris’ Vehicle-Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment (VAMPIRE) system, a compact and versatile defense platform, utilizes the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guided rockets. Originally designed for air-to-ground strikes by U.S. forces, these rockets have proven to be highly effective against unmanned drones when integrated into the VAMPIRE platform. The system is mounted on flatbed trucks and includes a sensor ball for targeting and four APKWS launchers, making it a mobile and adaptable solution for drone defense.

The introduction of the VAMPIRE system has allowed Ukraine to leverage an affordable yet precise weapon against the increasing drone threat posed by Russian forces. Each laser-guided rocket offers a cost-efficient method for neutralizing drones.

The VAMPIRE SAM system has quickly become a critical asset in our defense strategy, particularly in combating Russia’s drone warfare tactics. Its precision and adaptability have enabled us to intercept threats at a much lower cost than traditional surface-to-air missiles.

The system, which was supplied by the United States as part of a broader military aid package, is proving invaluable in protecting Ukrainian forces and critical infrastructure.
