EOS partners with Calidus for the manufacture of its new next-gen R500 remote weapon system

EOS Defence Systems has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Calidus to establish a UAE-based Centre of Excellence for its lightweight medium-calibre Remote Weapon System (RWS) family, including the newly launched next-generation R500. This collaboration will leverage both companies’ expertise to develop advanced, locally produced systems and position the UAE as a regional hub for next-generation weapon technologies.

This agreement was formalised at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The partnership will explore opportunities for joint manufacturing and technology transfer, focusing on EOS’ mid-to-heavyweight RWS portfolio, including the R400, R500 and R800.

Calidus specialises in the provision of advanced armoured vehicles and land defence systems, including the concept design and engineering phase, as well as the development and manufacturing of the defence products. Together with EOS, a global market leader in RWS and turrets, the partners will be able to provide turnkey solutions to regional and global clients.

Dr Andreas Schwer, Chief Executive Officer for EOS, said “This partnership with Calidus represents a significant step in expanding our footprint in the UAE and the wider region. By combining our expertise, we are strengthening the local defence industry, delivering world-leading capabilities, and ensuring that our advanced weapon systems are produced closer to where they are needed."

"This partnership with EOS Australia represents an exciting opportunity to expand the UAE’s defence manufacturing capabilities and strengthen our role as a regional leader in advanced technologies," said Dr Khalifa Alblooshi, MD and CEO of Calidus. "By combining our local expertise with EOS Australia's cutting-edge manufacturing solutions, we aim to accelerate the growth of the defence sector in the UAE, create local jobs, and enhance our production capacity to the region."

EOS’ RWS are world-leading, have been proven operationally, and are in use with militaries from Australia, the Middle East, North America, Europe, and South-East Asia. Renowned for their accuracy and reliability, EOS has sold over 2,500 systems globally, including more than 500 in use by the Emirati Armed Forces. Its Abu Dhabi based technology centre has served as a regional hub since 2019.
