EOS optimistic as order book surges

Ausbiz, the open: Interview with Dr Andreas Schwer

  • EOS completes a multi-year restructuring and grows its unconditional order book to $459 million AUD
  • Company expects major revenue and order growth, targeting break-even above $200 million revenue
  • Laser weapon systems forecast to become the dominant product line in coming years
  • General Dynamics Land Systems contract seen as pivotal for expansion in the US defence market
  • EOS responds to Grizzly Research criticisms, asserting disclosures remain transparent and accurate

Andreas Schwer, chief executive of Electro Optic Systems (ASX:EOS), highlights a turnaround year, noting the successful conclusion of a three-year restructuring programme. Schwer states the company’s net profit reached just over $18 million, but it reported an after-tax loss from continuing operations of $79 million. Revenue dropped by half to $131 million following the completion of a longstanding Middle Eastern contract, resulting in no dividend payout this year. Schwer remains optimistic, pointing to orders signed last year exceeding $420 million Australian dollars and an unconditional order book now at $459 million AUD, setting the stage for robust revenue growth.

Schwer emphasises that the operating loss is attributed to project delivery delays, stressing that anticipated revenue will likely materialise in 2026. He states that a projected significant uplift in revenue should allow EOS to reach break-even this year. Schwer views the growth of the laser weapon systems business as particularly promising after securing the world’s first 100-kilowatt laser contract, predicting it will predominate over the coming years.

Addressing controversies raised by Grizzly Research about EOS contract disclosures, Schwer refutes claims of misleading statements, stating all unconditional contracts are accurately reflected. The recent contract with General Dynamics Land Systems is singled out as a key “door opener” for the US Army market, potentially unlocking $3 billion USD in future opportunities.
