Ausbiz, the close: Interview with Dr Andreas Schwer

  • Acquisition of MARSS set to position Electro Optic Systems (ASX:EOS) as a global leader in counter-drone technology
  • MARSS brings over 20 years’ experience and 60+ operational installations to EOS
  • Significant revenue contributions from the acquisition expected from 2027 onwards
  • International contracts signed in the US, Korea, and the Netherlands expand global presence

Electro Optic Systems (ASX:EOS) is accelerating its ambitions in counter drone warfare through the acquisition of MARSS, a well-established European security and technology provider. Andreas Schwer highlights the move as transformative for EOS, positioning the company as a global leader in anti-drone technology. The deal, valued at an upfront cash payment of USD 36 million (approximately AUD 54 million) and a contingent consideration of up to €100 million, is expected to push EOS from an equipment supplier to a fully integrated counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) solution provider, capable of serving both military and commercial clients.

Schwer notes that MARSS brings over 20 years of experience and more than 60 operational installations worldwide, elevating EOS to the league of integrated continuous solutions. While only a modest financial impact is anticipated in the current year, Schwer states significant order inflows are expected. Major contributions to earnings are forecast from 2027 onward, supported by recent contracts including a strategic breakthrough with the US Army and new agreements in Europe, the Middle East, and Korea.

In the context of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, Schwer points to increased activity in defence stocks, particularly in anti-drone systems. He asserts that future growth for EOS will be driven primarily by European and Middle Eastern markets, with a global footprint expanding into the US and Asia.
