Canadian Defence CUAS Sandbox Success
IDEaS Sandbox Detect and Defeat: Counter Uncrewed Aerial Systems (CUAS) Challenge
Suffield, Alberta, September 12 to October 7, 2022
EOS' USA and Australian defence teams united to participate in the Defence IDEaS CUAS Sandbox in Alberta, Canada. We showcased our R400S remote weapon station mounted with the M240B machine gun and delivered catastrophic effects on static and maneuvering UAS at distances ranging from 300-1000m. Check out a few of our highlights from the event (video courtesy of Mike Franz / DRDC).
Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) is a funding program by Defence Research and Development Canada (Recherche et développement pour la défense Canada) to accelerate concepts and propel solutions forward to build a defence innovation ecosystem.
IDEaS, along with the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CANSOFCOM), led the CUAS Sandbox, coordinating with the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, and the US Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate. Sandbox participants were provided a variety of target UASs to detect and/or defeat as scientific subject matter experts and Canadian Army operators provided observational feedback to each participant.
EOS' Titanis Counter Drone Defence System is based upon the proven EOS R-Series Remote Weapon Stations (RWS), with direct energy, hard and soft kill capabilities, to provide a layered protection to UAS threats. The solution enables identification and close combat against UAS targets; with both soft and hard kill capabilities, while providing the ability to operate under protection. The cost of introducing the CUAS capability is reduced, as the training, support and operation are all based upon the in-service R400 RWS.
